Paul Speed started playing the trumpet aged 10 and gained his first interest in Wind bands at High Wycombe Music Centre. He went to Goldsmiths' College, University of London gaining a BMus Hons degree,after which he continued his studies with Paul Cosh and Paul Archibald.
As a freelance player, Paul has played for many orchestras including Hong Kong Philharmonic, London Concert Orchestra, New London Sinfonia, Orchestra of St Johns, Smith Square, Britten Sinfonia and the Philharmonie der Nationen in Germany. Most recently he has played with the Italian Chamber Orchestra Musica Seculorum, performing on period instruments for a live recording for radio broadcast.
Paul has appeared as soloist with several orchestras and has performed the Haydn Trumpet Concerto with Wycombe Sinfonia and Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No.2 with St Johns Chamber Ensemble.
Paul also plays in Chiltern Brass Quintet, based in Reading and the quintet has recently performed a recital at the Henley Festival.
